As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Frenchman Jean Marc Mormeck, who is the former WBA and WBC cruiserweight king and now 3-0 as a heavyweight with a total record of 36-4, is the new mandatory challenger to EBU heavyweight champ Alexander Dimitrenko.

Aalthough Mormeck has been appointed as the mandatory, it´s been generally believed that Alexander will vacate the title and go for a world title fight - but with the Klitschkos and David Haye holding all of major titles and already occupied in big fights - Dimitrenko might opt for a lucrative defence in France against Mormeck, who is self-promoted.

It deserves to be noted that a fighter is not appointed to the mandatory challenger position with the EBU. The has to accept the nomination. Because Mormeck made a decision to go for the EBU title, it appears also to indicate that any rumors of a WBA eliminator against Alexander Povetkin are now in the wind.

Dimitrenko, 31-1, have been a pro since 2002 and scored an impressive knockout last time out against tough Pole Albert Sosnowski. The EBU has set June 26 as the deadline for private negotiations and if no agreement is reached they will call for purse bids after that so this fight is far from a done deal.
