Boxing fans are becoming accustomed to big punchers from Argentina.  Lucas Matthysse has quickly become a fan favorite and faces his biggest test in Danny García on September 14, while Marcos Maidana is in line to face Adrien Broner.

Meanwhile, Luis Carlos Abregú continues training for what appears to be an October return to the ring, possibly against Brad Solomon.

“I’m continuing to train and work as I always do for all of my fights,” he told BoxingScene.

“It looks like I’ll now fight in October or November, that’s something that my promoters have yet to confirm.  You can’t stop training.  You have to be ready for when they confirm the fight.

“I’m close to having a fight for a world title.  I’m ranked number one with the WBC, I have the silver belt and I’ve beaten good fighters, so I’ve shown I’m ready.”

Abregú’s first major fight on American television was against Timothy Bradley in which he lost via decision.  However, ‘El Potro’ feels the result would be different if the two men clash again.

“I want to fight Tim Bradley as soon as possible.  I’ve been looking to fight Bradley ever since I recovered from my hand operation.  He’s a guy that I can beat.  In truth my hand is still not 100%, it still bothers me at times.  But I haven’t had problems in my recent fights.  I broke my hand in the first round against Bradley and had to fight 11 rounds without throwing my right.

“Bradley now has a tough fight with Marquez and so it’s something that can happen down the line.  It is something that has been talked about.”

Abregú was considered by many to be the underdog when he faced talented Puerto Rican, Thomas Dulorme, in October of last year.  But the Argentine felt he always had the edge and knew that Dulorme’s lack of fights would be a factor.

“I felt that Dulorme was a good fighter but I knew that he didn’t have the experience that I’ve got.  I felt a lot stronger than him.  I knew that if I trained well I’d win that fight and I did it, I won by knockout.

“Dulorme is a young boxer with a lot ahead of him.  He’s very strong as well, but he couldn’t handle me for the reasons I mentioned.

Although their paths never crossed as amateurs, Abregú has had the chance to spar with Lucas Matthysse and is sure of the outcome in his countryman’s forthcoming bout.

“I think Matthysse will beat Danny García.  I’ve had the chance to train with Matthysse.  He hits very hard and takes a good shot as well.  I’ve also sparred with Maidana, they both hit very hard.  But Lucas is stronger and better trained.  He has better stamina than Maidana.  Maybe in the future I could fight one of them.

“I still have a lot more to give; my hand problems haven’t let me show all the capabilities that I have.  I think as soon as my hand heals completely, I’ll be punching even harder.”

“After the next fight we’ll take a decision and see what we do.  Maybe I’ll have another operation, we’ll see what the medics and specialists say.
