Lighweight Daniel “Tremendo” Estrada (29-2-1, 22KOs) became the new WBC silver champion last Saturday night with a very impressive stoppage of Adrien Verdugo (22-6) in eleven rounds at Polideportivo Centenario in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico.

Estrada suffered multiple facial cuts in the contest, from accidental head clashes, and his face was a bloody mask in the later rounds.

“I started a little bit slow, and I started receiving quite a bit of punches, but then I realized that I had to change my game plan. He's the local [fighter] and of course he was going to be supported all the way. So I had to attack more,” Estrada said.

“I trained so hard and I waited so long for this chance that my will to win took control. I want to thank Canelo Promotions, Ring Telmex and my Godfather Manuel Mondragon for all their support”.

“I wasn’t able to see very well, because the blood was running into my eyes, so I decided to throw clusters of punches with all my might. That’s why I was able to knock him out in the eleventh."

Estrada is now targeting the winner of the upcoming clash between full WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco and challenger John Molina Jr. The fight takes place on September 8th in Oakland, California. Estrada hopes to face the winner in the next couple of months.
