Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has advised BoxingScene.com that his company is currently in talks with Miguel Cotto's representatives to work together on co-promoting the Puerto Rican superstar's return on December 1st at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Cotto (37-3, 30KOs), who promotes himself, became a free agent on December 31st of last year when his contract expired with Top Rank, who promoted the boxer since he turned professional.

This past May, Golden Boy co-promoted Cotto's lucrative fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather, like Cotto, promotes himself but has a close business relationship with Golden Boy and uses their company to co-promote his events.

Mayweather-Cotto was carried by HBO pay-per-view and generated 1.5 million pay-per-view buys and $94 million dollars in revenue.

"We are going to continue working together. We have a great relationship with them," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com. "Miguel Cotto is really a great fighter and our two companies work very well together. We've co-promoted a number of different fights together and we do some events with them in Puerto Rico as well. We're looking at working with some of the Olympians as well, together."

"We have a really nice relationship. Cotto's company [Miguel Cotto Promotions] handles our closed circuit and our pay-per-view business in Puerto Rico. [Golden Boy President] Oscar [De La Hoya] is actually in Puerto Rico now. I know Oscar and Miguel are going to get together. They like to play golf together. We have a great working relationship."

Cotto’s legal counsel, Gaby Peñagaricano, was not available for comment.
