Former champion Daniel Zaragoza, now a well respected trainer, gave his opinion on the continued debate between Mexican champions Erik Morales and Jorge Arce. Both fighters claim to be the first Mexican to win four titles in four weight divisions.

This past May, Arce knocked out Miguel Vazquez Jr. to win his fourth crown, the WBO super bantamweight title. Morales knocked out Pablo Cesar Cano in September to win the vacant WBC junior welterweight title, which is his fourth crown.

Zaragoza views Morales as the first Mexican to achieve this accomplishment, because Arce's title at 112-pounds was an interim belt. It should be noted that a young "El Terrible" retired Zaragoza in 1997. Morales knocked him out in eleven rounds to win his first world title, the WBC super bantamweight crown.

"I think Erik Morales is the real four time champion, because Arce won four titles [in four weight divisions] but one of them was an interim-title," Zaragoza said to BoxingScene.com.
