Boxingscene has learned that newly crowned WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios suffered a broken right hand in his victory over Miguel Acosta.

Rios survived four grueling rounds to eventually overcome the Venezuelan and win his first world title.

The news comes moments after learning that Acosta had to be carried out of the arena on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital for head scans.

Suffice to say, both fighters paid a heavy price in the early leader for Fight of the Year.
