Who said boxing was tougher than politics? In what is a huge story in Eastern Europe, a mass brawl broke out during a political meeting held at Kiev's city council. Klitschko, 38, was not hurt and held back from the urge to retaliate. An unidentified Ukrainian council member punched him in the face, according to the news agencies AFP and DPA reported.

Most of the wild scene was shown live on Ukranian television. A heated dispute started between Klitschko's reform group and legislators from the mayor's party, loyal to Leonid Chernovetsky. Klitschko and his allies decided to stop an assembly session from opening, which resulted in a wild scuffle on the council floor. Klitschko's group wanted to stop the council from debating until anti-corruption laws come into effect later this week.

"I didn't hit anyone - I just tried to push a few people away," Klitschko told television channel 1+1. "[If I fought back] it could have led to certain lawmakers being admitted to the hospital."
