Atlanta police have caught and charged 20-year-old Demario Ware in the murder of Vernon Forrest, which took place on July 25 near a gas station. Ware was charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery. Police told reporters that Ware is responsible for the robbery but he was not the triggerman who shot Forrest several times in the back.

Police are still hunting for the shooter and at least two others who feld in a red car. The men robbed Forrest of his championship ring and Rolex watch. After Forrest, also armed, chased the suspect and exchanged gun fire, he was shot multiple times in the back by a second suspect when he turned around to walk back to his car.
