Oscar De La Hoya will fight as planned on May 3 with a tune-up bout against an undetermined opponent at Mexico City's Estadio Azteca (holding 130,000 people) or the Home Depot Center in Carson, California (holding 45,000).

Speaking with Dave Meltzer of Yahoo Sports , De La Hoya not only confirmed the May 3 bout, but he also announced that a three-fight deal was reached with trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., who previously trained him for six-years. Floyd Sr. will train him for the May bout, the rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 13 and a possible third bout to take place in December. Floyd Sr. spoke with BoxingScene.com's Rick Reeno last week, revealing that Team De La Hoya contacted him to retain his training services, and also made it clear that he would show De La Hoya how to beat his son. The father-son rivalry will add a new flavor to the De La Hoya-Mayweather rematch.

The May return will likely air on regular HBO and not pay-per-view. There are three opponents in the running for the May fight, but Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer would not disclose the names to Meltzer.

"I want to set a trend where the big-name fighters will fight on free television. Why not go back to the roots? Go back to fighting on free television. I think the fans deserve it. I hope other fighters can do this," De La Hoya said. "Floyd Sr. said he would train me for Floyd Mayweather Jr. That's excellent news for me. I'm very confident with Floyd Sr. in my corner. He knows Floyd Jr. better than anyone. He's the one who created him. With Floyd Sr. in my corner, my chances of winning are great."
