Zolani Tete Targets Ryan Burnett Unification Showdown

Slick South African Zolani Tete wants to unify the Bantamweight division with newly crowned IBF World Champion Ryan Burnett, and is happy for the fight to take place in Belfast.

Burnett outpointed former belt-holder Lee Haskins at the weekend, while Tete defeated Artur Villanueva in a final eliminator in April, and was then elevated to full World Champion status.

“Now I have the WBO belt I want to clean up the rest of the division. Burnett has the IBF belt and I want it,” Tete stated.


Promoter Frank Warren has offered the fight to the 25-year-old Northern Irishman, who outclassed Haskins at the SSE Arena Belfast.

“If Burnett wants me to travel to Belfast I will happily do it,” continued Tete. “He is a warrior and should want to test himself against the best.”

Tete held the IBF World Super-Flyweight strap from 2015 to 2016, and is now keen to add to his collection by beating Burnett.

The Bantamweight division is bustling with talent. Japan's Shinsuke Yamanaka has held the WBC strap since 2011, while Ricky Hatton-trained Zhanat Zhakiyanov recently became the WBA 'Super' Champion.
