Zolani Tete: Belfast Fans Know I'm The Man To Beat Ryan Burnett

With just under two months until his return to Belfast, Zolani Tete is excited to put on another show at the SSE Arena.

On April 21st, the WBO World Bantamweight Champion meets experienced Argentine Omar Narvaez on the stacked Carl Frampton undercard.

Belfast local Ryan Burnett unified two titles last year, but his team have so far been unwilling to take on Tete, and the South African believes the fans know why.

"I won quite a lot of fans in my last fight in Belfast. I'm hoping again this time around they will get to see me and see my style," he said on the latest BoxNation Podcast.

"Definitely, I am the man to beat Ryan Burnett. I believe some of the fans in Belfast know that and they believe what I'm saying. I believe that fight can make a lot of money for Ryan Burnett, and also for myself. So it's a fight that should happen."

Tete first announced himself on the UK scene in March 2015, when he travelled to Liverpool to take on Paul Butler. 'Last Born' knocked the Liverpudlian out in eight rounds to retain his IBF World Super-Flyweight Title.

He admits he is still taken back that British fans recognise him: "Yes actually I'm very surprised. That's one of the things that makes me feel at home, because here in South Africa there are provinces where not a single person can recognise me as a World Champion.

"But I went to the UK and people were recognising me when walking on the street," he revealed. "That's a dream for every boxer to be recognised worldwide."

Finally, Tete signed off his interview with Steve Lillis with a message for his fellow Bantamweight World Champions Burnett and Luis Nery.

"My message to them is let's make the big fights happen. We are all World Champions, we are all incredible World Champions. There should be one king. The Heavyweights are doing it, they're showing us. So why are we running away from each other? There must be one king in the Bantamweight division. That's my message to them.

Also on episode 12 of the BoxNation Podcast, Jack Catterall talks about training with Jamie Moore and Ohara Davies recalls meeting Ricky Hatton.
