Zakaria Attou Stripped of EBU Belt, Milas vs. Tintor on Oct. 6

By Per Ake Persson

French super welterweight Zakaria Attou, 27-6-2, has been stripped of the EBU title. Attou was all set defend the title on September 29 in Torrelavega, Spain, against Sergio Garcia, 27-0.

However, he was cut in sparring on the scalp and the injury needed several stitches and he was told by the doctor to take three weeks off.

For the promoter, Maravillabox, this would have meant a postponement of what probably is their biggest fight of the year and as it was the EBU went with Maravillabox and Attou was stripped of the title.

Maravillabox, found this weekend a substitute in Maxime Beaussire, 27-1, also from France, and a former EU titleholder whose only loss came against Attou.

As for Attou he learned that he was an ex-champ through social media and is of course totally unhappy with the situation.

Heavyweight Petar Milas takes on big Bosnian Mirko Tintor on October 6 in Tranreut on a bill put on by Petko´s Box Promotion. Milas spent a few weeks in Russia sparring with Alexander Povetkin and is co-challenger along with Robert Helenius for the vacant EU title.

As for Tintor he is competent southpaw but often way too heavy.

Topping the bill is light heavy Serge Michel defending the WBC Int´l title against Sheldon Lawrence from Trinidad & Tobago.

French cruiser Besarion Khutusashvili, who suffered a head injury in early June in a fight against Dylan Bregeon is out of the hospital. Khutashvili was kept in a medically induced coma for several weeks and have recovered relatively well but is still in rehab as there is some problems with his legs.
