Yoshihiro Kamegai Aims To Impress Against Leal in Tokyo

By Hisao Adachi

This coming Saturday night in Tokyo, promoter Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions is staging the 510th edition of his traditional television program "Dynamic Glove."

In the ten round headliner, undefeated #6 WBC world ranked welterweight Yoshihiro Kamegai (21-0-1, 18KOs, 30 years old and Teiken Boxing Gym in Tokyo) will exchange punches with Mexican fighter Jose Alberto Leal (8-4, 4KOs, 30 years old and from Guadalajala, Jalisco).

This will be the first fight of 2013 for Kamegai, who hopes to eventually become a world champion under the direction of the more traditional Teiken Boxing Gym in Tokyo, which now boasts two world champions such as WBC flyweight king Toshiyuki Igarashi and WBC bantamweight beltholder Shinsuke Yamanaka.

Kamegai hopes to make a better impression in the ring after a lackluster outing that took place last December in Sacramento, California - where he went to a ten round draw (96-94, 95-95, 95-95) with tough Mexican Jorge Silva (19-3-2, 15KOs, 20 years old and from Tijuana).

Kamegai's nickname is "Professor", which comes from the nickname of former Mexican WBO welterweight champion Jose Luis Lopez.

In the ten round middleweight co-feature, former Japanese champion Daisuke Nakagawa (19-3-2, 15KOs, 35 years old and Teiken Boxing Gym in Tokyo) will face the Takehiro Shimogawara (18-7-2, 6KOs, 30 years old and Jewelry Kadoebi-Boxing Gym in Tokyo).
