Yoandris Salinas: I'm Ready To Fight Scott Quigg Now

The current #2 WBA super bantamweight challenger, Yoandris "El Niño" Salinas, and his promoter Carlos Rodriguez, said they are waiting for news from Scott Quigg's new team about their ordered fight. Now, as reported by BoxingScene, Quigg joined Matchroom Sport and now Salinas' team wants to start negotiations to finalize their match very soon.

"We have the best intention to negotiate with Matchroom on this fight. Quigg had problems with his former team and told Boxingscene that he already solved this issue. Now, Dream Team Boxing Promotions is willing to negotiate the fight, Salinas-Quigg, and we hope to have news soon," promoter Carlos Rodriguez told BoxingScene.

Salinas said - "We are training, confident that Quigg will have the courage to do this fight. He solved his promotional issues and on our side we are ready to fight whenever and wherever they choose. My job is to be in the gym and train for every fight, my promoter will do his job and I must do mine. If Scott Quigg and his team want to defend his title must do against a top-ranked boxer and that man is Yoandris Salinas"

Last month the World Boxing Association (WBA) ordered Quigg (25-0-1, 18KOs) to face Salinas (20-0-1, 13KOs) for the vacant WBA super bantamweight championship. The "regular" belt became vacant when Guillermo Rigondeaux defeated Nonito Donaire in a WBO/WBA unification bout last month. The two sides were given until June 14 to reach a deal or a purse bid will be ordered.

Quigg, the WBA's interim champion at 122, will defend his title on June 29 at the Bolton Arena in Bolton, Lancashire.

Gonzalez said - "If Scott Quigg defends the interim title against someone other than Salinas, the title should become vacant and Yoandris as the best ranked contender will have the opportunity to fight for this title against an opponent in the future. We believe it is best for both teams to reach a deal. These guys are great fighters because we are going to see a very exciting fight. Quigg and Salinas are two young fighters who are both in their prime and this fight would be wonderful for boxing fans."
