Fabian Maidana and Jorge Maysonet are set to headline Saturday's edition of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBC Sports Network, live from Scottish Rite Theatre in San Antonio, Texas.
Appearing in his first U.S. TV main event, Maidana (9-0, 6KOs) tipped the scales at 143.8 lbs. The 24-year old from Argentina is the younger brother of former two-division titlist Marcos Maidana.
Maysonet (13-1, 11KOs) weighed 141 lbs. for his first fight in 14 months. The 26-year old from Catano, Puerto Rico has won two straight - both taking place in Dominican Republic - since suffering the lone loss of his career.
Also on the show, Alan Castaño takes on Aaron Garcia in an eight-round middleweight bout with an interesting twist.
Castaño (10-0, 7KOs) - a 23-year old from Buenos Aires, Argentina - weighed 155.2 lbs, while Garcia (15-5-1, 10KOs) came in heavy on the first try, checking in at 158.6 lbs. He was still over the limit on the second try, but Castaño's team agreed to move forward with the fight,
The matchup carries a built-in scouting report for Castaño, whose brother Brian scored an eight-round decision over Garcia in his most recent bout last December.
In the evening's swing bout, local favorite Brandon Figueroa takes on Puerto Rico's Adalberto Zorrilla in a super bantamweight scrap also scheduled for eight rounds.
Figueroa (8-0. 6KOs) - the younger brother of former lightweight titlist Omar Figueroa - came in at 122.8 lbs., while Zorrilla (6-1, 6KOs) came in at 122.4 lbs.
The event marks the fifth fight of 2016 for the 19-year old Figueroa, whose pro debut came just last May. He has fought in each of the past four months, including this serving as his third straight fight in San Antonio. His most recent ring appearance came in this very venue just four weeks ago, capping a PBC on NBCSN telecast with a 2nd round stoppage of Oldier Landon.
