Warrington: I Was Doubted at Every Level, Now I'm Champion

Leeds Warrior Josh Warrington achieved his lifelong dream on Saturday night after being crowned World Champion at Elland Road on May 19th.

Warrington, who was mandatory challenger to IBF World Featherweight Champion Lee Selby, outfought the Welshman over 12 enthralling rounds.

Around 25,000 fans roared Warrington on at the home of his beloved Leeds United football club, and the 27-year-old was elated after the fight: "I could die a happy man, I really could. How do you top that? Anything’s possible.

"The last 18 weeks have been emotional: in those 18 weeks my baby girls have been born, I’ve had to deal with them crying at two, three, four, five o’clock in the morning and then go to sparring the next day. My beautiful wife has helped me out massively and so has my whole family."

Prior to the fight, the challenger was largely written off and Selby was 4/1 on with the bookmakers. The former dental technician believes he has proved the doubters wrong once again.

"I was doubted at English level, I was doubted at British level, I wasn’t meant to go any further than that. But I outboxed, outfoxed and outsmarted a brilliant Champion in Lee Selby," he added.

Looking ahead to his potential next opponent, Warrington admitted that an August date with WBO Interim Champion Carl Frampton may come around too quickly.

"Carl Frampton keeps on getting mentioned but Windsor Park might be a little bit too soon, we’ll have to see about that. I wouldn’t mind going back to the Leeds Arena, have another nutty night there, defend the title and then possibly see about fighting Carl after that."

All the talk before the Selby fight was about how the winner was going to face Carl Frampton. Very disappointing that they are now changing their tune and want to milk the belt.

You beat Lee Selby, SO WHAT?! Selby robbed Fernando Montiel and Eric Hunter WAY before Josh exposed him ; its kinda like we got another Lee Selby all over again with Josh Warrington.
