Carl Froch's World Super Six showdown with Andre Ward has been postponed after the American boxer was injured in sparring.

WBC super middleweight champion Froch had been set for a unification showdown with Ward, holder of the WBA belt, in Atlantic City on October 29.

However the fight has been postponed after Ward was left needing stitches following a training accident.

Ward wrote on Twitter: "Bad News: I sustained a cut in sparring a few hours ago...flew to LA to see the Doc. I got 7 stitches. I will let you know the new date soon"

The unbeaten Ward (24-0) had beaten Arthur Abraham to secure his place in the final of the tournament, while Froch beat Glen Johnson.

The 34-year-old Froch, whose only defeat in 29 fights came against Mikkel Kessler, will now have to wait on a new date for the showdown.
