Video: Jessie Vargas Breaks Down Manny Pacquiao Clash

By Ryan Burton

On November 5th, WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas (27-1) will step foot in the ring at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas in the biggest fight of his career. Standing across from him will be 8-division champion Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2).

The 27-year-old Las Vegas resident has been looking for big fights the past couple of years, calling out the likes of Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez, Danny Garcia, and he also called for a rematch with Tim Bradley.

He thought he had his big fight - a unification bout against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook this summer - until at the last moment when Brook decided to move up to middleweight and face Gennady Golovkin instead.

He instead got the biggest fight possible against Pacquiao and feels that with it coming on the heels of his March knockout victory over the previously unbeaten Sadam Ali, the timing is perfect.  The Ali fight was his first under the guidance of Dewey Cooper who he believes is the perfect fit for his style.

"More than anything I would say I am happy because this fight came at the perfect time and the perfect moment. A moment where I have a great team behind me where they are bringing out the best in Jessie Vargas and you still haven't see the best that I have to offer but you will see it on November 5th. That is for sure without a doubt," said Vargas who believes his best is yet to come.

"Mark my words, November 5th will be even better than the win over Ali.  Just watch!"

Another key factor in Vargas' favor is his experience against southpaws.  In 2014 Vargas fought three times - all against lefties - and he feels that his experience against Khabib Allakhverdiev, Anton Novikov and Antonio DeMarco (all three were unanimous decision victories for Vargas) will prove to be invaluable.

"Definitely it has helped me a lot and not only that but we have several times prepared for it. We have long term sparring partners that will help me prepare for but definitely those experiences will help me prepare for it," Vargas told BoxingScene.com.

An announcement is expected soon to announce the pay-per-view distributor of the fight along with the undercard.
