At the Burg-Wächter-Castello in Dusseldorf, Germany, Victor Emilio Ramirez (14-1, 12KOs) stopped previously undefeated Alexander Alekseev (16-1, 15KOs) after nine rounds of action to capture the WBO interm-cruiserweight title. Alekseev's corner threw in the towel after feeling that their fighter had taken enough punishment.

Viewed as one of the best up and comers in the sport, Alekseev did well at the start, but Ramirez slowly broke him down with hard shots to the body and head. Alekseev tried to go toe to toe at times, but he wasn't able to take Ramirez out and as a result he punched himself out by the late rounds. By the ninth, Ramirez was blasting Alekseev at will with power punches.
