Sports City Gym, Hatillo, San Jose, Costa Rica - Bryan “Tiquito” Vasquez (32-1, 17 KOs) became a two-time WBA interim-super featherweight champion with a five round technical decision victory over Rene “Chirizo” Gonzalez (31-6-1, 23 KOs) of Mexico. The fight came to an early end when a clash of heads opened up a bad cut above the left eyebrow of Gonzalez in the fifth round. The fight went to the cards and Vasquez got a five round technical majority decision. The scores were 48-48, 49-46.5 and 49.5-47.5. The fight was using the WBA's half-point system. Vasquez picks up his third win in a row since losing to Japan's Takashi Uchiyama last December.
