Costa Rican boxer Bryan "Tiquito" Vasquez (29-1, 15KOs) admits that he strayed away from the planned strategy in Monday's fight with World Boxing Association (WBA) super featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama. Vasquez fell off the plan his trainer had layed out and instead went to war with Uchiyama.

The end result was Uchiyama stopping him in the eight round and handing him the first defeat of his pro career. Uchiyama was well ahead on the official cards at the time of the stoppage.

"It was my pride. I stayed away from what I needed to actually do, use my intelligence. I had to fight a very smart fight, but I did it in another way. I just wanted to trade punches with him, because I really wanted to make it a fight because he is a great champion," Vasquez said.
