After having signed the contract to fight Erislandy Lara 3 weeks ago, Vanes Martirosyan finally got the good news that Lara had finally signed as well and the fight was on. It’s been a long road for the 2004 USA Olympian to finally get a big meaningful fight in his quest to a world title.

Both Martirosyan and Lara are considered two of the most avoided fighters in the stacked Light Middleweight division so it only seems fitting that they fight each other. The fight is set to take place November 10th on the under card of the yet to be announced Manny Pacquiao bout but with news that Pacquiao might now fight December 1st, it’s not known if that date will change. There is also take of Vanes-Lara remaining on November 10th as part of another Top Rank promoted show.

Martirosyan talked to BoxingScene’s official radio show The Boxing Lab and admitted he was happy Lara finally signed on the dotted line and has already been training. “I’m training really hard. We’ve already been training for the Lara fight for almost a month and I’m training like never before. Getting this fight is like when I made the Olympics. It’s that big of a deal and a fight I really wanted” said Martirosyan.

Both fighters recently took to Twitter a few days ago and traded insults as the intensity of this fight was raised. Vanes said he later found it wasn’t actually Lara tweeting but his manager Luis DeCubas Jr. Regardless, Vanes assures when they step in the ring, the fight will not be going the distance.

“People may not know me as a body puncher but I’m going to break Lara’s ribs. He won’t even be able to show up to the press conference after the fight because he will have to go to the hospital. I’m going to destroy Lara” promised Vanes.

Vanes is already training and the good news is his trainer Freddie Roach already informed him he will not need to go to the Philippine as all training will take place at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood.

Should Vanes be victorious against Lara, he plans to target the rest of the champions in the 154 pound division and hopes they will finally fight him.

“I hope the Canelo fight does end up happening since I’ll be the number contender. I’d also fight the other champions. I don’t care what Austin Trout says, he never asked for the fight. I feel I can stop Trout and that’s why he doesn’t want to fight me. K9 [Bundrage], I guess he wants to be buried with his belt because he’s not fighting anybody” Martirosyan would tell The Boxing Lab.

One thing is clear, Martirosyan has a chance to excel to the next level and he’ll have to go through Erislandy Lara first in order to make that possible.
