The final Olympic qualification team selection process for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 gets underway this weekend at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center (USOPTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo. and will run until the team departs for Sophia, Bulgaria for the 2020 Strandja Tournament on Jan. 17. A total of 27 boxers will arrive at the USOPTC, with only 26 attending the Strandja Tournament. A full roster can be seen below.

The process will begin with a box-off between 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing silver medalist Jeremiah Milton (Tulsa, Okla.) and 2019 Pan American Games bronze medalist Richard Torrez Jr. (Tulare, Calif.) on Saturday, Jan. 4. The winner of the box-off will stay in Colorado Springs to continue in the selection process, while the other boxers’ journey will be complete.

Boxers will then take part in a multination training camp with several foreign countries. The training camp will feature multiple test matches and other assessments as part of the athlete evaluation process for points that is detailed in the athlete selection procedures.

“USA Boxing is excited about the group of athletes who advanced to the next stage of our selection process following the 2020 Olympic Trials,” stated Matt Johnson, USA Boxing High Performance Director. “We have some familiar faces along with a new crop of boxers who will be attending their first camp and competition in January. It will be a busy month for us, as we have a variety of other nations coming to Colorado to train with our team in Colorado. We look forward to working with this group and determining who will be selected to attend the Olympic qualifiers by the end of January.”

The final step in the selection process will be the 2020 Standja Tournament, which the 26 boxers will depart for on Jan. 17 and begin competition on Jan. 19.
