Tyron Zeuge Will Pass on WBSS Tournament, To Rematch Ekpo

By Per Ake Persson

WBA regular super middleweight champ Tyron Zeuge, who retained the title this past weekend with a clear points win over Paul Smith, will not take part in the World Boxing Super Series tournament, writes BILD.

Instead Zeuge will go through with his mandatory defense against Isaac Ekpo.

There will thus be no unification fight against stablemate and WBA super champ George Groves, who is confirmed his intention to take part in the WBSS tournament.

EU super middleweight champion Serhyi Demchenko (18-11-1) will defend the title against mandatory challenger Orial Kulaj (17-5) in Rome where both are based at a date to be announced with Round Zero promoting.

There were purse bids scheduled for today (June 17) at noon but the parties reached an agreement around 15 minutes before deadline. It´s a good matchup between two tough warriors who often have ventured into the other guy´s backyard with mixed results but always performing well.

Hes not even the real champion anyway. He's just the WBA "regular" champ.

Shades of Sven Ottke here. "Anything to keep his 0"!

Thats kinda weak. He seems like a guy with nothing to lose & everything to gain by entering that tournament. Well I mean he could lose the belt, but he should be paid well for it & its not like…

Zeuge is a classic Germany-based Sauerland paper belt holder, like Braehmer. Sauerland is not going to risk their ability to milk his fake belt by having him fight a legitimate opponent. Maybe they can set up a rematch with Paul…

He's gonna hold that belt hostage fighting mediocre opponents for as long as he possibly can
