By Victor Salazar

MORE LIVE RESULTS TO COME..............

USF Sun Dome, Tampa Bay, Florida - Gary Antonio Russell (3-0, 2 KO’s), the brother of Gary Russell Jr. defeated Puerto Rico’s Jaxel Marrero (1-6-1) by unanimous decision. Russell was the quicker faster fighter. Though throwing and landing the hard shots, Russell was unable to knock down his opponent but got the well-earned decision, 40-36 on all the judges’ cards.

Antonio Tarver Jr (3-0,2 KO’s) continued his undefeated streak as he defeated Puerto Rico’s Ramesis Gil by Unanimous Decision.. Looking like the more in shape fighter and sitting on his left hand punches, Tarver was in full control. Gil took a knee in round 3 after a barrage of combinations from Tarver to being the round. But Gil turned the tide in the middle of round 3 putting Tarver on the ropes countering his jab with a right hook but Tarver ended the round with a big left hand that won him the round. The two guys traded in the 4th with Tarver nearly stopping Gil. Tarver gets his 1st decision victory of his career improving to 3-0, with the judges scoring it 40-36 for Tarver.

In his pro debut Super Welterweight from  Orlando, Bruno Bredicean (1-0) defeated Mississippi’s Randy Hedderick (0-4) by unanimous decision, 40-36 in all 3 judges’ cards. In what was a one sided bout, the local product was the aggressor and the better technician, landing left hooks off his jab while slipping shots on the inside. Bruno ended the bout with a massive left hook to close out a 4 round victory.

In what was a very entertaining back and forth fight, Edner Cherry (34-6-2, 19 KO’s) defeated Luis Cruz (21-4,16 KO’s) by 9th round knockout. Cherry dealt with Cruz’ fire power better and in exchanged it was Cherry who was landing his patented “Cherry Bombs”.

Cruz was the aggressor early one working off a 1-2 that was keeping Cherry back. But Cherry came forward through Cruz’s technique. In the 8th round both guys got tangled up forcing a takedown where Cherry got 5 minutes to recover. The crowd booed as Cherry took his time. In the 9th Cherry dropped Cruz with a straight right. Once Cruz got up, Cherry went on the prowl, landing a 1-2 and then another left hook “Cherry Bomb” to end it.

Local product Manny Woods improved to 14-3-1 and as he won a decision over Puerto Rico’s Carlos Garcia (7-15-1) to open up the Keith Thurman-Luis Collazo fight card from Tampa, Florida. Woods was the quicker, stronger guy in the Jr. Welterweight contest. Much to the delight of the early crowd, the St Petersburg fighter got his 14th victory of his career.
