Tewa Kiram: U.S. Fans in For a Big Surprise, I'll Shock Matthysse

2018 begins a bang as KO artist Lucas Matthysse fights for the vacant WBA World Welterweight Title against undefeated Thai Tewa Kiram on January 27th, live on BoxNation.

Matthysse moved up to Welterweight earlier this year and joined forces with new trainer Joel Diaz. Speaking at the press conference to announce the fight, the Argentinian was excited at his World Title opportunity.

“I am honoured to be able to fight for a World Championship in just my second fight at Welterweight. I understand I am facing a younger, undefeated opponent, but I am confident that 'The Machine' will emerge victorious.”

The 35-year-old has told press that he wants the toughest possible fights in his new weight division. “I'm happy to be back in the United States. I've had a great camp. I don't train for the knockout, but if it comes, I'll welcome it.

“I fought everyone at Light-Welterweight. I want to do the same at Welterweight; I want to fight the best,” he added.

Kiram is relatively unknown, but he carries an undefeated record and impressive KO ratio.

“I understand not many people know me in the U.S., but they’re in for a big surprise. I’ve never been defeated, and I am fully confident that I will return to Thailand with the WBA Welterweight World Championship around my waist,” said the Thai boxer.
