Team Canelo: Lara Will Need Luck To Avoid a KO Loss

By Salvador Rodriguez

Chepo Reynoso, trainer and co-manager of Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (43-1-1, 31KOs), is confident his fighter will overcome WBA 'regular' junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12KOs). The match is scheduled to headline a Showtime Pay-Per-View event on July 12th from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Canelo is training hard in California, and getting help from Brazilian Olympian Yamaguchi Falcao.

For his part, Lara promised to take Canelo to the "Cuban school of boxing."

"He opened his mouth a lot. I will tell you this, that he needs a lucky night to avoid getting knocked out - unless he gets on his bike and runs around all night. To me, Lara has an obligation to go out and fight, otherwise it will end badly. He said that he's from that [Cuban] school [of boxing] and all, but in Mexico there are no schools around - there are universities of boxing," Reynoso said.

[QUOTE=CubanGuyNYC;14611753]I can't see Canelo getting another crack. Floyd isn't long for the sport, I don't think. He turns 38 in February, and he arguably showed signs of aging in his last fight. I think he has too many options, and…

[QUOTE=CubanGuyNYC;14611757]Good luck to you, too. Should be a good fight. I think it'll get nasty. Too much on the line for Lara, and Canelo is a ballsy kid. I think we're on the same wavelength, except for the part about…

[QUOTE=CubanGuyNYC;14611726]Alas, you're right. I've been hearing some encouraging things about guys returning from TJ. They say it's an 80% success rate. I truly hope Jose falls into that majority. But I'm not worried about it. There's something about that kid.…
