Kevin Cunningham, manager and trainer of welterweight contender Devon Alexander (23-1, 13KOs), confirmed to BoxingScene.com that influental boxing adviser Al Haymon has joined their team.
The target return date of August 18th is still being discussed, but no location or venue has been solidified. Cunningham and Alexander want the best possible opponent for the August date.
"We want a solid opponent. Devon Alexander doesn't have anything to prove to anybody. Look at his list of opponents. He went from Junior Witter, to Juan Urango, to [Andreas] Kotelnik, to Timothy Bradley, to [Lucas] Matthysse, to Marcos Maidana. Devon is willing to fight anybody, but it also has to make sense," Cunningham told BoxingScene.com.
Last week, there were numerous articles, especially overseas, regarding the failed attempt by British boxer Kell Brook (27-0, 18KOs) to secure Alexander for his upcoming ring return in July. However, Cunningham is not familiar with Brook.
"I don't even know who Kell Brook is? Who is Kell Brook? Has he ever fought on ESPN before? I've never seen him fight," Cunningham said.
