Shawn Porter: My Plan is To Knock Phil Lo Greco Out!

By Ryan Burton

Welterweight contender Shawn Porter faces fellow undefeated welterweight Phil Lo
Greco in a crossroads battle this Saturday night in Atlantic City. The fight will be televised on SHO Extreme in support of the Showtime Championship Boxing card that will broadcast Lamont Peterson versus Lucas Matthysse and Devon Alexander against Lee Purdy.

Porter's last fight was a draw against former champion Julio Diaz who recently gave Amir Khan everything he could handle in a close decision loss.  Diaz sent Khan to the canvas and came close to picking up the victory. We asked Porter if he felt Diaz's performance made his draw not seem as bad as it was first perceived.

"In terms of Julio Diaz and Amir Khan I look at that fight and I had a tough time with Julio. Not a lot of people picked him to give Khan any trouble but I knew he was tough.  It was just a draw (and not a loss) but it left a bad taste in my mouth so the plan on Saturday is for me to knockout out Phil Lo Greco. So look for a knockout," Porter said candidly.

The 25-year-old said that 2013 will be a big year for him and that he plans on taking his career to the next level by getting a title shot before the year is out.

"I am at that point where if I'm not fighting for a title then I need to be fighting for an eliminator after I take care of Lo Greco," Porter told us on BoxingScene Radio.

He finished up by saying that he has reviewed Lo Greco's fights and based on what he has seen he doesn't think the Italian-Canadian is on his level. He sees weaknesses in his game and plans on exploiting them on Saturday night.

"I have seen his fights. I think honestly he is not what I am. He's not a complete fighter. He leaves himself open a lot. He's careless with his punches and I am going to take advantage of that," Porter concluded.
