Shane McGuigan has seemingly confirmed that his partnership with Carl Frampton is over.

The former WBA featherweight world champion confirmed his departure from Cyclone Promotions and Barry McGuigan on Monday afternoon.

Though Frampton left out specifics in his short statement regarding his parting of ways with Cyclone, 28-year-old Shane –– the son of Cyclone chairman Barry and trainer of Frampton –– appeared to signal that their partnership had come to an end by removing him from the list of fighters he trains in his Twitter bio.

Coalisland middleweight Conrad Cummings, Portsmouth’s Josh Pritchard, Northampton’s Chantelle Cameron, Commonwealth super-lightweight champ Josh Taylor and WBA super-middleweight champion George Groves remain under the tutelage of McGuigan, who boxed alongside Frampton in the amateurs, but the training future of the 30-year-old is at this point unclear.

Further details are expected to be revealed in due course.

IN OTHER NEWS: By Paul Webb - Tournament boxing seems to be all the rage in 2017 and BCB promotions have got in on the act launching the inaugural Midlands Boxing Super Series.

Eight of the area’s super-featherweights will face off on October 15 at the Walsall Town Hall in a tournament format.

The draw took place at the Grosvenor Casino on Thursday (August 17) and it threw up some interesting matchups.

West Bromwich’s Jack Summers (3-2) is in with former Area title challenger Manny Zaber (10-1).

Luke Jones (3-1-1) will face a physical test against Joe Ducker (3-4-2, 1 KO), a career welterweight who faced Conor Benn last September.

It seemed inevitable that stablemates Louis Fielding (6-4, 1 KO) and Josh Baillie (5-3, 2 KOs) would clash as they will have to put their friendship aside for the evening.

The expected bookies favourite Paul Holt (6-5, 2 KOs) is facing the only unbeaten man in the tournament Waqas Mohammed (2-0-1) in an all-Birmingham clash.

Promoter Errol Johnson, who is putting together the tournament, said: “It’s a chance to see who is the best out of the eight contenders.

“Hopefully, Midlands fight fans will back the concept and we can do more BCB Midlands Boxing Super Series at a variety of weights.

“Let’s see who is the last man standing.”

The quarter-finals will take place over six rounds, the semi-finals over eight in November and the final will be in early 2018 with the vacant Midlands super-featherweight title on the line.

Tickets are priced at £35 general admission (£40 on the door) and £60 (VIP Ringside to include buffet and waitress service) and can be purchased by calling 0845 111 2900.
