Segura-Calderon Rematch Tussle Continues Over Money

By Miguel Angel Cebreros,

The negotiations for the much anticipated rematch between Ivan Calderon and Giovani Segura has remained stalled in a give and take stage between Calderon's promoters Peter and Ivan Rivera of Puerto Rico Best Boxing, and Segura's manager Ricky Mota, and promotional reps Fernando Beltran and Guillermo Brito of Zanfer Promotions.

Giovani Segura said he already paid the dues, and went to Puerto Rico to beat Calderon while receiving the purse of a challenger for little money in a unification fight.

"I agreed to meet with Calderon on his land against all odds and for little money because I had confidence in my ability. I did not mind going to the island while earning little money, as I had said earlier. But now I'm not just looking to win. I'm not asking for much, just what I think I deserve. I just want to be respected as a champion, and as the only person to beat Calderon I would like to get paid my worth. I loved it in Puerto Rico, and the treatment by the people, and I will gladly return to that beautiful land," Segura said.

Discussions continue for the fight, with dates in March or April in Puerto Rico and Acapulco, Mexico being thrown around.

Calderon is just going to take a knee again. If they want Segura to go to Puerto Rico one more time then they need to give him a 60-40 purse split. He is the champion after all.

Calderon might be thinking it would be better to fight a few tune ups before a rematch. I wouldn't blame him, it increases the odds of him gaining revenge.
