Sean Dodd just keeps rolling –– and he’s been given another chance to prove himself.
The Birkenhead lightweight, who is the current Commonwealth champion, outpointed Thomas Stalker last September.
Dodd beat ‘El Capitan’ on points at the ECHO Arena in a fight many were torn over.
And he will return to the scene of arguably the greatest night of his career on April 21, exclusively live on Sky Sports, when he puts his belt on the line against Hull’s Tommy Coyle.
Coyle boxed Derry Mathews for the belt in 2013 and was knocked out in round 10, at Craven Park in his home city, after outboxing the Scouser for the majority of the previous nine completed rounds.
But he will get another bite of the cherry when he takes on ‘Masher’ at the Arena on a card that will also feature the comeback of former world champion Amir Khan, who recently signed a three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing.
“Working on a big card for [Amir Khan’s] return,” Hearn tweeted on Monday while announcing the fight. “First up [is Dodd vs. Coyle] for the Commonwealth lightweight title.”
Boxing Scene understands that Paul Butler will fight on the card, potentially in a world title contest, along with Natasha Jonas.
Tom Farrell, should he come through his scheduled March 10 return at the Auditorium at the BT Convention Centre unscathed, is also expected to feature, with further details regarding the bill to be revealed in due course.
An announcement regarding ticket on-sale dates and prices will be made later this week.
