The opportunity for Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez to fight for a world championship will have to wait. The negotiations between Alavrez's promoter Golden Boy Promotions, and WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko, fell apart. Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya informed Alvarez's manager Eddy Reynoso that Senchenko refused to come over to the United States for the fight. Alvarez is set to return on March 5.
Golden Boy will present a number of choices for Canelo and a final decision will be made in two weeks. They are attempting to get a title eliminator for one of the four major belts.
"We were told the negotiations with the Ukrainian boxer were over, so we have to find a new oppponent and we'll see what choices we have. (Senchenko) di not want to fight and they have already ruled out any possibility of fighting him. We have to meet [with Golden Boy] to discuss a number of opponents who may be facing Saul," Reynoso said to Israel Romo.
"We have a margin of seven or eight days to see what we are going to do, if we are going for a world championship or having a normal fight or going for an eliminator for a world belt. We have to think carefully about what we plan to do."
