Salido Adviser: My Fighter Did NOT Miss Weight, Scale Was Off

By Steve Kim

Earlier today from the Mandalay Bay, Orlando Salido, needed two attempts to make the 131-pound weight limit for his match-up against Miguel Roman, that takes place tomorrow night. In the past Salido has had his issues at the scales.

But Sean Gibbons his adviser explained to BoxingScene.com - "The Nevada scale, the big scale that we weighed on, the scale was off."

The weigh-in took place at the Mizuya Lounge and open to the public.

Salido weighed himself right before he went to the weigh-in and came in at 130.8-pounds - which was under the limit.

"Orlando Salido did NOT miss weight," Gibbons made it clear. "What happened was we left our room to come to the weigh-in at 130.8, right on the money on a digital scale. We came down to get on the Mandalay Bay house scale. There were too many people on the stage, whatever, they weighed us at supposedly 131.5  - that's absolutely wrong.

"That's why we went right to our room - and I have photos - we got right on the digital scale and he was 131 on the money. He took a pee, he was actually two-percent under. I called commissioner Bob Bennet of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, told him we'd come right down. We were right on the money. Orlando Salido did NOT miss weight - Mandalay Bay missed weight.

"They need to have their scale calibrated."

Gibbons wanted to clear the air based on the past history of his fighter and the perceptions that exist about him.

"I don't want any stories with people saying,' Orlando Salido missed with, he had to go make weight,' or whatever. That's not the case,'' stated Gibbons.

The weight limit for this ten-rounder, which headlines on HBO, was 131-pounds. Roman weighed in at 130.5.
