Ruben Varon Says He is Facing Brian Rose on 11/21

By Ben Jacobs

According to his Twitter account, Rubén Varón (43-8, 20 KOs) will travel to Manchester to face Brian Rose (27-3-1, 8 KOs) on November 21. The Spaniard claims the encounter will be an eight rounder as part of the undercard for Anthony Crolla’s intriguing rematch with Darleys Pérez.

Rose bounced back from a first round TKO loss to American Carson Jones, suffered in February, to gain revenge with a unanimous points decision victory in their rematch back in August. The 30-year-old will be hoping for another run to a possible world title shot after his defeat by Demetrius Andrade for the WBO belt last year.

Varón, meanwhile, is well known to UK fight fans from his December 2010 battle with Matthew Macklin which some observers felt was closer than the scorecards suggested. Macklin was awarded a unanimous decision but suffered at times over the course of the 12 rounds.

Since that fight the Madrid man has lost two further bouts by stoppage although in his last outing, in May, he recorded a win over six rounds in his native land.
