Roach: Mayweather, Bradley, Berto-Ortiz Next For Khan

By Edward Chaykovsky

Trainer Freddie Roach is outlining some every big opponents for Amir Khan. He wants the British star to face a major opponent in the next couple of months. On Saturday night at the MEN Arena in Manchester, Khan (25-1, 17KOs) retained his WBA junior welterweight with a six round technical decision over Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12KOs). Their bout was stopped early in the sixth round after a clash of heads opened up a cut above the left eye of McCloskey. All three judges scored it 60-54.

"I think we could face Timothy Bradley to unify the division. He could go up to welterweight and fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. We could even fight the winner of Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz. We are ready to step up and fight the best opponents that we can," Roach said.

The stoppage of McCloskey was controversial as the Irish fighter was pleading with the referee to continue. Roach is not bothered by the short night.

"I think Amir hurt him a few times in that round. If it would have continued, I think Amir woud have stopped him in that round," Roach said.

Amir is clearly not ready for Mayweather, Bradley would be a pickem fight, and I will reserve my call on Berto and Ortiz until tomorrow :)
