Next Saturday night from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, two-division world champion Danny Garcia (33-1, 19 KOs) will return to the ring against Brandon Rios (34-3-1, 25 KOs) in a WBC final welterweight eliminator.
In the co-main event, David Benavidez (19-0, 17 KOs) will make his first title defense in a rematch against top contender Ronald Gavril (18-2, 14 KOs). They first collided in September, with Benavidez winning a decision.
Garcia is back for the first time since losing a twelve round decision to Keith Thurman last March at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Rios, who is a former world champion at the lightweight limit of 135-pounds, is a very big underdog, but hopes to turn back the odds when he faces Garcia.
"I'm training very hard and I'm ready to go back to the ring. My weight is perfect right now and I'm ready to give the fans a great show," Rios said.
"This is the kind of fight I wanted, because I know that defeating a man like Danny Garcia will mean a lot to my career and it will put me on the right path to achieve my goals. Danny has a lot of power, he throws hard punches and he's accurate, so we've worked hard to prepare for this moment....and I'm excited.
"I'm going to win, and that's the only thing on my mind. I'm going to go into this fight with hunger and I won't be defeated again. I'm going to do everything I have to do to win this fight."
"I feel rejuvenated and more mature than ever. I've already been on top, I just want to do things right this time so I can go back there and stay there. I've taken this camp very seriously to be at my very best on February 17th. I will go out and execute the game plan. "
Tickets for the live event, promoted by Mayweather Promotions and TGB Promotions, are now on sale and available at AXS.com.
