Rios didn't ask his Argentine stablemates for info on Chaves

By Ryan Burton

Las Vegas, NV - Coming off two consecutive losses, former lightweight champion Brandon Rios is very aware of the importance of his HBO televised showdown against Diego Chaves of Argentina. The fight takes place on Saturday night at the Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas strip.

"It is a big fight.  It is a big fight for me because of the fact that I lost my last two.  I trained hard.  I am well prepared and I followed my diet this camp.  I followed every instruction right.  I am very pleased at the outcome and I am already on weight.  I am ready to rock and roll on Saturday," said Rios who appeared to be in great shape.

Rios trains out of the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy in Oxnard, Calif. under the tutelage of Robert Garcia whose deep stable of fighters includes several Argentine fighters such as Marcos Maidana and Jesus Cuellar.

Even though he views this fight as do-or-die, Rios said that he hasn't asked for any inside information on his opponent and that he is confident his skills will lead him to victory.

"I don't really ask them honestly.  We have guys in the gym who are from Argentina.  We have Chino Maidana, we have his brother Fabian, we have Pana, and we have (Jesus) Cuellar.  They all know him but I don't really ask them.  They just say, 'you are going to be ready.  You look strong and look ready to go,'" Rios told BoxingScene.com.
