Currently Randy Caballero is a promotional free agent. Right now, the former IBF bantamweight champion is training at the Summit in Big Bear, California, helping Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez prepare for his September 10th bout against WBC super flyweight titlist, Carlos Cuadras.
The 23-0 (14 KO's) Caballero is hoping to get a deal done soon.
"We're still in negotiations with Golden Boy(Promotions), we sent them a contract over, a revised contract," he told BoxingScene.com before starting his workout. "Hopefully it goes through and I get back in the ring. It's been about two years and I've only fought one time. I'm anxious to get back. I want to win another world title."
After defeating Stuey Hall in October of 2014 for the IBF belt, he had one title defense scrapped to due an injury and last year he was scheduled to defend it on the Saul Alvarez-Miguel Cotto undercard in Las Vegas but failed to make weight before facing Lee Haskins. Golden Boy staged a fight for him in February where he stopped Ruben Garcia in seven.
"I think we will come to an agreement and get back in the ring with them," said the 25-year old native of Coachello, California ."I don't see why not. I wouldn't mind finishing the rest of my career with them. They got me to my first world title and I'm sure I can grab another world title with them."
Robert Diaz, Golden Boy's matchmaker, who has worked closely with the Caballero family tells BoxingScene.com - "We've been working very hard, we're trying to get a deal done. A deal that makes sense for both sides. Sometimes, one said thinks it makes sense for them but it doesn't make sense for the other so I want to make sure it makes sense for us and for him.
"And yeah, we'd love to have him back. He's grown here, he's won a world title here and I'm sure together we can accomplish another world title."
