A press conference was held to announce the doubleheader which features legendary Mexican boxer Jackie 'Princesa Azteca' Nava and world champion Mariana 'Barby' Juarez - which takes place on August 11 in the majestic Mexico City Arena.
Should they both win, the two female stars are likely going to fight on a date in October.
Nava (33-4-1, 14 KO's) will break a layoff of more than a year to take on the dangerous Venezuelan Alys Sanchez (15-4-1, 4 KO's) in an expected rematch, and a win would send her on a collision with Mariana Juarez at a agreed catch-weight of 120 pounds.
Juarez (49-9-4, 18 KO's) will defend her World Boxing Council title against Japanese contender Terumi Nuki (10-3, 7 KO's), whom she already beat in July of last year by way of the points.
Both Mexican warriors and promoters Zanfer and Promociones del Pueblo jointly announced the card.
"Glad to be back, there was a lot of time where I'm thinking about whether or not I'm going to continue fighting or not. I like my job, we're back and we're much better, working in the State of Mexico," Nava said.
"Super happy to make another defense, it's a rematch with a girl who has a great punch. First I have this fight, and I want to thank Jackie who is coming back. A very interesting fight is coming but first we have to think about this commitment and then we have to think about what comes later," said Mariana Juarez.
It is worth remembering that this double championship event will be carried by the two biggest networks in the country, Azteca 7 and Televisa Deportes.
