Floyd Mayweather has dismissed the possibility of making a return to professional boxing after delivering a brutal victory over Tenshin Nasukawa in a New Year's Eve exhibition fight, at Saitama.

41-year-old Mayweather made light of work of his 20-year-old opponent, despite having been in retirement since August 2017, when he stopped UFC superstar Connor McGregor to raise his professional record to a perfect 50-0.

It ended in tears for the local hero.

The former five division world champion knocked Nasukawa down three times in the opening round at the Saitama Super Arena, before the Japanese kickboxer's corner threw in the towel.

Mayweather said in the build-up he expected to pocket $9 million from the fight, which headlined an event organised by Rizin Fighting Federation, a Japanese mixed martial arts organisation.
