ONTARIO, California – Jermell Charlo (33-1, 17 KOs) overcome a very tough challenge to close the show in the eleventh round with a stoppage of Tony Harrison (28-3, 21 KOs) to reclaim the WBC junior middleweight title. (photos by Stephanie Trapp & Fox Sports).
They met one year ago, in December 2018, with Harrison winning a controversial twelve round decision to capture the WBC title.
Charlo came out very aggressive in the first round. Harrison slowed it down quickly with his jab. Harrison went back to the jab in the second round, which sent up a big right hand. Charlo came out swinging like a wild man and they were trading punches. Charlo unloaded with a combination that dropped Harrison down.
Charlo came out winging wild shots in the third. He was landing, but then Harrison began to back Charlo up and started landing punches to the head and body. They both had moments as the punches were flying in the fourth round.
Harrison was outlanding and outworking Charlo on the inside in the fifth. Harrison was now letting his hands go and taking the fight to Charlo in the sixth. Harrison continued to control the action during the seventh. Harrison was jabbing heavy in the eight.
The ninth was very close, with Harrison seeming to steal it with his work at the end. Charlo was really taking the fight to Harrison in the tenth. Charlo back to unloading with punches in the eleventh, coming forward and letting his hands go. Charlo landed a big counter hook that dropped Harrison for a second time. Another combinations of punches to drop Harrison for a third time. Charlo began to unload with shots and the referee jumped in.
