Photos: Callum Johnson Demolishes Sean Monaghan in Three

WBA Light Heavyweight Titlist Dmitry Bivol defended his belt in a technical fight against Joe Smith Jr., and Maurice Hooker retained his WBO Lightweight Title after going the distance with Mikkel LesPierre who hit the canvas once. Callum Johnson, with his eyes on a title shot, stopped Sean Monaghan in three rounds with a dominant performance in a Light Heavyweight battle.

Bivol, 28, was in control from the outset in New York, claiming a unanimous decision win to retain his title and improve to a 16-0 record.

Bivol was untroubled by Smith (24-3), the judges scoring the fight 119-109, 119-109 and 118-110 in his favour.

Smith tried to be aggressive early, but he struggled to land much of note in the opening rounds.

Instead, it was Bivol in control, and he did some damage to the right eye of Smith.

Already in command, Bivol landed a flurry of big blows in the seventh round after a hard jab.

An increasingly frustrated Smith then threw Bivol to the canvas after the fighters came together in the ninth round.

Smith managed to land a huge right at the end of the 10th, but Bivol's win was never in doubt.
Yea, that's what 99.9% of the "experts" would say.
I like it when fans have the courage to pick out an underdog or two, and cite their reasons why. I know what you mean by simply going with the obvious,…

Bivol should stay in his current division, there are a lot better opponents for him to fight. If he drops down and fights Smith and beats him...Then what?
My thinking is that there must be a reason why Bivol is fighting at 175, rather than 168. 175 is a nightmare of a division, and was even more so when Bivol took the decision to campaign there. Packed with…
From looking at the two of them, I’d be surprised if Bivol had more trouble making 168 than Mundo does. Bivol was sipping water at the weigh in before he stepped on the scale lol. Also, I don’t know how…
I thought Smith was outboxing Groves because he was the one controlling the distance, holding the centre of the ring and landing the Harder shots. I don't know if he could beat Bivol, but it would be a competitive fight,…
