Parker's Trainer: At Some Point Wilder Will Test Fury's Jaw

By Ryan Burton recently caught with Kevin Barry, trainer of former heavyweight champion Joseph Parker.

Parker (24-2) is currently training for his December 15th fight against Alexander Flores (17-1-1). The bout takes place at Hornecastle Arena in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The 26-year-old Kiwi is attempting to bounce back from consecutive defeats.  After losing an unanimous decision to Anthony Joshua in March, Parker got off the canvas in July to drop Dillian Whyte in the 12th round and nearly stop him before losing another decision.

Both Barry and Parker are also very interested in this Saturday's Showtime pay-per-view showdown pitting WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder against unbeaten former WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO champion Tyson Fury.

"I think it is a great fight for boxing. I think it is an exciting fight. It is a contrast in skills and styles. Personally I would have liked to see Tyson Fury lead it and take a couple more tune up fights because he really didn't show anything in those two fights he has had and this is a really big step up for him," said Barry.

"I look at Deontay Wilder and his punching credentials are as good as any heavyweight we have every had in world boxing of all time. He is extremely heavy handed and he is a guy that I think has a bit of chip because he doesn't believe that he has received the respect that he should have."

The 33-year-old Wilder has been very outspoken in his desire for a mega-fight and Fury will be the biggest fight of his career.  Previous attempts to face current WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO champion Anthony Joshua and top challenger Alexander Povetkin have fallen apart for a variety of reasons.

Barry expects Wilder to rise to the occasion and impress under the spotlight.

"He has always wanted the big fight. He went to Russia and it didn't happen. Povetkin tested positive. This is a big fight for him. He has waited a long time for it. I think there will be a lot of early rounds that go to Fury but when Deontay Wilder hits him that it will be a game changer," Barry told

"As I look at the fight I know Tyson has tremendous skill and is a very clever boxer. He has gone through a massive transformation from his weight loss and the troubles he had to even get himself back into the ring but 36 minutes is a long time not to get in a heavyweight fight and I think at some stage his jaw is going to get tested."
