Pacquiao Still Wants To Avenge Knockout Loss To Marquez

By Miguel Rivera

WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38KOs) would still like to avenge his 2012 knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez.

The boxers collided four times. The first fight took place twelve years ago, at featherweight, and ended in a controversial twelve round split draw. It took four years to get a rematch together in 2008 at super featherweight. This time Pacquiao won a controversial split decision.

Three years later in 2011, they met for a third time at a catch-weight of 144-pounds. Pacquiao managed to win another twelve round decision that was deemed controversial One of the judges scored it a draw while the other two had Pacquiao winning by two and four points.

They met for a fourth time in 2012. For the first time in their fight series, Pacquiao was knocked down in the third round. He came back to drop Marquez in the fifth, with the Mexican veteran knocking him out cold in the sixth with a single counter in the closing second.

At the time of the knockout loss, Pacquiao appeared to be on the verge of knocking Marquez out.

Marquez (56-7-1, 40KOs) has not fought since May of 2014, when he won a decision over Mike Alvarado. He's received some very handsome offers for a fifth fight with Pacquiao - and rejected them all. He sees no reason to fight Pacquiao one more time and considers that chapter closed.

"Yes, I would like to [fight him again], because I would like to get even for that fight where he surprised me with only one punch. It was was a fight in which I was sure of that I could finish him in the next round. But he set me up very well with that punch, and all of that is part of the risks that come with boxing," Pacquiao told ESPN Deportes.

"I was looking to finish him, but I had a moment where I wasn't paying attention. I got careless and everyone already knows what happened, he connected with a very good punch."

Pac needs to watch a slow motion video of him getting KTFO, in very slow slow motion, and come to grips with the fact that he's lucky to be alive.
