Pacquiao is Pleased: Buboy Adapted The Style of Freddie Roach

Eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao is very pleased with his ongoing training camp.

A few weeks ago, Pacquiao announced that he was parting with his trainer of 16 years, Freddie Roach.

For his upcoming return, Pacquiao will be prepared by his best friend and assistant trainer, Buboy Fernandez. Also added to his team is veteran coach Noninto Donaire Jr. and strength & conditioning coach Justin Fortune.

Pacquiao is coming off a twelve round decision loss to Jeff Horn, which took place in July 2017 at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.

On July 15th in Malaysia, Pacquiao will return to the ring and challenge WBA "regular" welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse. ESPN+ will televise the contest in the United States on July 14th - due to the time difference.

Matthysse, a feared puncher, is trained by Joel Diaz and he's viewed as a very live dog in the contest.

A win over Pacquiao would be by far the biggest victory of his pro career.

Some are wondering if Pacquiao, now 39-years-old, has declined. He appeared to be a few steps behind in the loss to Horn, who was huge underdog in the contest.

However, the challenger predicted at a recent workout that his fans would see him on top form in Malaysia.

"A young Manny Pacquiao throwing a lot of punches, and more footwork, head movements, side by side (motions) -- that's my goal to achieve for this fight," Pacquiao said.

There has been some concern regarding Pacquiao being trained for a do or die fight with Buboy.

The Filipino legend wants his fans to stay calm, and he indicates that Buboy is doing a tremendous job in camp.

"Buboy adapted the style of Freddie Roach and he knows what to do for this training so I am confident with Buboy," Pacquiao said, refusing to compare the two trainers.
