Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya says Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (40-0-1, 30KOs) will prove a lot of things on April 20th at the Alamodome in San Antonio, where he faces WBA champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14KOs) in a unification before an estimated crowd of nearly 40,000 fans. Among the many in his big stable, De La Hoya has taken a personal interest in the progress of Canelo's career. He views this contest as the turning point in Canelo's level of competition.
"This fight against Austin Trout is extremely important, not only to demonstrate that Canelo Alvarez has everything to be a great champion, but to show the public that Canelo is a true champion who wants to face the best in the world - [including] the young faces, the undefeated fighters, and the champions of the sport," De La Hoya said.
