Oquendo Gears Up To Hit New York For Cuellar Bout

Featherweight world contender Jonathan "Polvo" Oquendo will travel on Tuesday, December 1, to New York, to complete his training for his fight against the WBA featherweight champion Jesus Cuellar to be held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on December 5, broadcasted on Showtime.

Oquendo (26-4, 16 KOs), who is training in Palm Beach, Florida, since November 1, will finish their training in this city on Monday, November 30, to travel on Tuesday to New York for the bout against Cuellar (27-1, 21 KO).

"Jonathan and his team will leave for New York on Tuesday to finish their training there and to be part of the activities in the week of the fight in Brooklyn," said Peter Rivera, vice president of PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP), the company represents Oquendo, who is ranked #9 by the WBA and #8 by the WBC at 126 pounds division.

Oquendo is coming off the biggest win of his career when on September 12 he won a majority decision over former two-time world champion Jhonny Gonzalez in Las Vegas. This year, he also beat Mexican Gabino Cota by unanimous decision in March.

While, Cuellar's only fight in 2015 was a KO win over former world champion Vic Darchinyan in June. The Argentine won the interim WBA featherweight title in 2013 by defeating Claudio Marrero and successfully defended it with victories over Rico Ramos (unanimous decision), Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez (KO2) Ruben Tamayo (TKO5) and Darchinyan (KO8).

Showtime broadcast on December 5 will begin at 9:00 pm EST with the clash between Oquendo and Cuellar and then the main event between WBA middleweight Daniel Jacobs (30-1, 27 KOs) defending his belt against former world champion Peter Quillin (32-0-1, 23 KOs).
