Omar Narvaez To Stay Busy For Zolani Tete, Fights in Argentina

Former two division world champion Omar Narvaez (47-2-2, 25 KOs) will stay busy, as he booked a fight for this coming Saturday night in Puerto Madryn, Argentina.

He will go against Jesus Vargas  (16-11-1, 12 KOs) of Venezuela.

The two boxers are very familiar with each other. They collided in the bantamweight division back in February of 2016, when Narvaez stopped Vargas in seven rounds.

Narvaez was last in action back in October, when he stopped previously undefeated Nikolai Potapov in a final WBO eliminator to secure a world title shot at bantamweight king Zolani Tete (26-3, 21 KOs).

Narvaez and Tete were scheduled to fight on February 10 at Copper Box in London, but the contest was postponed after Tete suffered a calf injury.

The entire show was eventually cancelled and the two boxers will collide later in the ring.

“I’m hugely disappointed to have to postpone my fight with Omar Narvaez.” Said Tete. “Unfortunately I picked up a calf injury that has severely hindered my training and the only option was to postpone the fight.
 
“I train as hard as I fight so there is always a risk of picking up injuries. World Championship defences are incredibly tough and it is unsafe fighting when you are not fit. Narvaez is a two-weight world champion so it is vital that I am fully prepared for him.
 
“I am determined to put on another explosive performance for my UK fans when I face Narvaez. After I beat him the plan is to unify the Bantamweight division against Ryan Burnett. It is a fight that the boxing world wants to see and I am hopeful that it will happen in 2018.”

Narvaez has only lost once since 2011 - a knockout defeat at the hands of Naoya Inoue in Japan. Since then, he's been on a winning streak and picked up four victories in a row to bounce back.
