Omar Figueroa likely out till next year with hand injury

BoxingScene.com recently spoke to interim WBC lightweight champion Omar "Panterita" Figueroa.  Figueroa won the title on July 27th in a "Fight of the Year" candidate against Nihito Arakawa.  The original plan was for Figueroa to return to the ring in either November or December but Figueroa injured both of his hands in the fight and said that he doesn't think they will be healed in time to take another fight this year.

"Unfortunately I don't think I will be back this year.  I am excited for my next fight. You know I want to put my new confidence (from going 12 rounds for the first time) to work but I have to rest to my hands.  Just doing certain maneuvers with my hands and they still hurt," Figueroa told BoxingScene.com.

there's some good 1's @ '35 4 Omar when he's well...he's all action/no defense...fortunate 4 him the Japanese had no punch...no opponents named but I'l throw in John Molina...

Good little fighter. I was looking foward in seeing him again on his next bout. I hope that problem won't be a lingering one

Kids a knockout waiting to happen. I hope he trains on footwork and head movement with all that time off.
